sh\u014djin ry\u014dri (Buddhist vegetarian cuisine).<br>\nEach guest received a personal hot pot and freshly fried tempura, with unlimited rice refills.<br><br>\n\nThe room even had a TV, and the futon was soft and fluffy.\u3093<br>\nExcept for a few minor points\u2014like paid bath towels and no soap at the room\u2019s sink\u2014it felt just like staying in a ryokan.<br><br>\n\nBut what I most recommend is the morning service.<br>\nOver ten monks chant together\u2014the sound and resonance are powerful and moving.<br>\nIt may sound odd, but there was even a kind of groove to it, an almost musical rhythm that made it deeply soothing.<br>\nIt\u2019s a rare, unforgettable experience.<br><br>\n\nAfterward, I joined the kaidan-meguri (pilgrimage through the pitch-dark corridor beneath the main hall).<br>\nYou walk in total darkness, feeling your way along the wall\u2014it\u2019s completely dark, to the point that I gently bumped into the person ahead.<br>\nUnlike my previous experience at Zenkoji Temple\u2014where someone ruined the mood with their smartphone light\u2014this time, there was no light at all, not even a crack.<br>\nIt was a true experience of darkness.<br><br>\n\nThe lodging fee includes admission to the kaidan-meguri (which is otherwise charged separately for non-guests),<br>\nso the price felt quite reasonable overall.\n    <\/p>\n\n
