A Peaceful Inn with Local Flavors and Historic Charm

Founded in the Taisho era and just a 3-minute walk from JR Unomachi Station, Fujinoya Ryokan is a cozy, long-established inn nestled in the quiet streets of Uwacho. Its convenient location with free parking makes it an ideal stop for pilgrims walking the Shikoku 88 Temple Trail.

The elegant wooden structure, preserved for over 120 years, provides a sense of comfort and reliability. Meals are a highlight—multi-course kaiseki dinners crafted with seasonal seafood from Uwajima Bay and fresh local produce offer a delightful taste of the region. Dinner is served in a private dining room overlooking the garden, providing a quiet, enriching experience. The guest rooms, mostly Japanese-style, are calm and clean, and the inn provides free use of washing machines and dryers—a thoughtful perk for long-distance travelers. Check-in starts at 4:00 PM, and check-out is by 10:00 AM.

With its relaxing atmosphere, heartfelt hospitality, and authentic local cuisine, Fujinoya Ryokan is a place where travelers can pause, recharge, and quietly regain the strength to continue their journey.

Located behind the street, this is an old-fashioned ryokan with the proprietress, Nakai-san, and Itamae-san.
I think that the meal is different depending on the price, but it is very luxurious and delicious.
The building itself feels old, but it was a tasteful inn with a courtyard.
As a pilgrim, the proprietress took great care of me.

A good old Japanese restaurant and inn with the scent of the Showa era. I am grateful for the 4000 yen without meals. With breakfast (from 7:00), you can have a delicious and hearty breakfast for +500 yen. Hot tea is provided as a service. There are no vending machines in the museum, and you won’t be able to go out around 22:00, so it’s recommended to buy cold drinks in advance. However, there is no refrigerator in the room. The bathroom and toilet are shared. Washing machine + dryer (home use) free of charge. It’s very close to Unomachi Station, but the convenience store is a bit far. It seems that you can’t make a reservation on the web, so it might be a little-known spot.
