A Town Inn Near the Station, Gently Restoring Your Journey with Home-Cooked Meals and a Wooden Bath
Just a 2-minute walk from Kubokawa Station, Maruka Ryokan is a long-established, family-run inn that has been watching over the town for over 70 years. Its home-style meals, crafted from Niida rice, local pork, and fresh vegetables, are highly praised, and the stately hinoki (Japanese cypress) bath gently soothes the weariness of body and soul. The inn is fully equipped with a washing machine, dryer, and Wi-Fi—making it a thoughtful base for walking pilgrims. It’s a place that naturally restores your energy and quietly prepares you for the next leg of your journey.

Many guests comment on the excellent condition of the facilities: “The inn has that nostalgic charm, but the bath and toilets have been renovated and are surprisingly clean,” and “The hinoki bath was especially memorable—by far the best of any henro lodging I’ve stayed in.” Its convenient location is also well regarded, with comments like “Just a short walk from Kubokawa Station” and “The location was very helpful.” As for the meals, guests appreciate the flavors of the region: “The food was deeply flavorful and centered around local ingredients.” There are virtually no negative reviews, and overall, it is praised as “a dependable inn that blends the charm of a traditional ryokan with modern comfort.”
The exterior and rooms look like an old-fashioned ryokan, but the baths and toilets look like they have been renovated, so they are really beautiful. In particular, the bath is made of hinoki cypress, and I think it is the best among the baths of the inn where I stayed on the Shikoku pilgrimage.
