A Nostalgic Japanese Inn Embraced by the Quiet of a Port Town
Located near Murotsu Port in Muroto City, Kochi, Ota Ryokan is a long-established traditional inn with a rich history dating back to the Meiji era. Just a short walk from the 25th pilgrimage site, Tsunomine-ji, it offers a reassuring location for walking pilgrims. All 14 rooms are Japanese-style, and some feature views of the harbor that quietly sink into the heart.

The home-style meals prepared in the inn’s kitchen are cherished for their handmade warmth and use of local flavors—particularly the signature dish, Gonbee Sushi, a chirashi-style sushi that has earned high praise. Spacious tatami rooms with traditional furnishings and a veranda offer comfort amid the stillness of the port town. The inn is also fully equipped with modern conveniences such as Wi-Fi and laundry facilities, ensuring a secure and relaxing stay.

Ota Ryokan warmly embraces weary travelers with a nostalgic charm, gently preparing body and soul for the next step of their journey.

User Review Summary (from external sites)
Guests have praised the inn for its cleanliness and comfort despite its age, highlighting the spacious bath and modernized toilets. Many found it “quiet and restful,” and appreciated practical aspects such as motorcycle parking. Other comments included, “more relaxing than a business hotel,” and “offered great peace of mind for the price.” While some noted the building’s age or described the meals as “ordinary,” most found the experience to exceed expectations for its affordability and homey atmosphere. Overall, it’s recognized as a modest yet tranquil inn that delivers cleanliness, space, and a sense of comfort beyond its price point.

The hostess’s attention to detail was excellent, making it a very comfortable inn. There was a bath that could accommodate about three people, allowing for conversations among pilgrims, which was nice. The meals were satisfying, with dishes like sashimi, grilled fish, pork miso soup, and mapo tofu, along with small side dishes (though I believe it may vary depending on the day).
