User Review Summary (from external sites)
Kadoya Ryokan (New Wing), beloved by many local pilgrims, is highly regarded for its location immediately beside the 13th temple, Dainichiji—making it a valuable base during the Shikoku pilgrimage. One guest remarked, “I arrived before 3 p.m. and was shown to my room immediately; they even prepared the bath right away, which was very helpful.” The landlady receives widespread praise for her kindness and attentiveness, with guests saying, “She’s friendly and gentle, and I’m really glad I stayed here.” Although the building may show some age, cleanliness is well-maintained, leading to reviews like “Old, but clean and comfortable.” Some modest concerns have been noted, such as “portions at dinner felt a bit small” or “facilities like futons and room dividers felt dated,” but these are generally outweighed by the landlady’s hospitality, the excellent location, and the convenience of facilities like washing machines and dryers—making the ryokan a well-loved stop for pilgrims.

It was 8000 yen for 1 night and 2 meals. I did not check the price when making the reservation, but I was not informed of any price increase. The amount of food was not enough for a walking pilgrim. Washing was 100 yen and drying was 100 yen for 30 minutes.

★★ (2 out of 5 stars)

I stayed here for the first time in 30 years in October 2024. The landlady is lively and talkative. We had a lively conversation as we are the same age, about the changes in the world of pilgrimages and the recent surge in foreigners. While new types of pilgrimage lodges are emerging, this is a traditional pilgrimage lodge. Other people’s reviews mentioned the food, but I was more than satisfied with it. There is a washlet toilet, and drinks are kept cold in the shared refrigerator.

A cozy little hotel. The proprietress seemed generous, polite and hospitable. Unfortunately, I don’t speak Japanese. The meals are exquisite and delicious, and Japanese costumes are prepared, which makes dining feel particularly ceremonial. Other facilities are also clean and practical. It is close to Daiinichi Temple and is a good place to stay on the way.
