A Showa-Era Inn Where Time Spirals Quietly by the Station
Just steps from Kamojima Station, Sakura Ryokan sits on a quiet street corner, exuding a nostalgic atmosphere that seems to embrace a bygone era. Its wooden signage and unique spiral staircase evoke the spirit of the Showa period, gently stirring memories. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed with a rice ball and tea, accompanied by a handwritten letter from the okami (hostess)—a heartfelt touch that leaves a lasting impression. Located conveniently within walking distance of Fujiidera Temple (No.11), the inn provides a light start to the next day’s pilgrimage. This warm inn gently supports pilgrims as they rest in the timeless stillness, ready to move forward again.

Sakura Ryokan is highly praised for its convenient location for pilgrims on foot—within walking distance of Fujiidera—and also for its proximity to stores and restaurants in central Kamojima. Many guests express heartfelt appreciation for the okami’s warm hospitality, especially the gesture of providing a rice ball with a handwritten note before departure. The staff is also commended for being flexible with bookings and for offering helpful support such as luggage storage and route guidance for the pilgrimage. Despite the building’s age, guests note that they were able to stay comfortably, and overall, it is regarded as a soothing and supportive base for pilgrims.
Because it is located in the town of Kamoshima, you will not be troubled with eating and shopping. It takes about 30 minutes on foot to Fujii-dera. The kind proprietress took care of me in various ways and gave me a rice ball before leaving the next morning. A heartwarming letter was also attached to it, and I still keep it as a memorial. It is an old inn, but I was able to stay comfortably.
I have stayed here twice.
★★★★ (4 out of 5 stars)
It is located in the city, and you can buy various preparation items such as food and taping when going to Shosanji-michi. This inn used to be used for filming a drama about the pilgrimage, and in the cafeteria there are signs of famous actors.
I received a rice ball as an entertainment, and I was moved to find a letter of thanks and encouragement from the hotel staff inside.
