A Tranquil Pilgrim’s Inn with Hot Springs and Heartfelt Hospitality
Tucked away in Donari Town, Awa City—between Jūraku-ji (No. 7) and Kumadani-ji (No. 8)—Okudaya Healing Pilgrim Inn offers a peaceful stay that warmly supports those on the Shikoku Pilgrimage. Each private room is clean, lockable, and equipped with air conditioning and Wi-Fi, perfect for a comfortable stay on a no-meals basis. Guests particularly appreciate the free shuttle to nearby “Gosho-no-Sato” natural hot spring, as well as discounted entry tickets. The inn also offers transportation and consultation for pilgrims between temples No. 3 (Konsen-ji) and No. 11 (Fujii-dera), and can even shuttle guests to nearby dinner spots. Run by a kind-hearted Buddhist priest and his wife, this quiet, dependable inn gently restores the energy needed for your next step forward.

Many reviewers highlight the “comfortable and clean private rooms” and express heartfelt gratitude for “the couple’s warm and caring hospitality.” Guests appreciate thoughtful services such as shuttle rides to hot springs, baggage storage, and help with pilgrimage logistics. Located conveniently between Konsen-ji and Fujii-dera, it’s seen as a strategic and calming stopover. While the facilities are simple and understated, they offer a soothing and quiet environment ideal for rest. Overall, Okudaya is consistently described as “a healing inn that truly supports pilgrims.”
Kokudaya operates the third temple, Konsen-ji’s Okunoin “Aizen-in”. From there, I was able to carry my luggage to the hotel. We also have a very rare brush-written goshuin. It’s an inn and a room without meals, but there are hot spring facilities nearby, so you don’t have to worry about bathing and eating, and you can stop by a convenience store and buy breakfast. Highly recommended for location and facilities.
Feeling good on the first day of the walking pilgrimage. Luggage can be left at Aizen-in Temple in Konsen-ji Okunoin, No. 3 on the pilgrimage route. The stamp written by brush is unique in Shikoku. It’s basically a room without breakfast, but there is dinner at a nearby hot spring facility, and they will take you to a nearby 🏪, so it’s okay to stay without breakfast. The facilities are clean and there is only a sense of security for those who are in a monk-type facility. The picture is my dinner for less than 1,000 yen🍴Recommended lodging on the first day of the walking pilgrimage.
I stayed here on my first pilgrimage.
★★★★★ (5 out of 5 stars)
It is a room without meals, but as others have written, you can pick up and drop off at a convenience store and a nearby hot spring (500 yen bathing fee, shampoo, body soap, and hair dryer provided).
The owner was very kind and warm, and he took us on both funny and serious stories with a smile.
You can feel the same as you are at home.
I don’t know how many times I can do the pilgrimage, but I definitely want to be here on the first day.
