A Temple Lodging of Tranquility—Hot Spring & Buddhist Devotion

Located at Temple 6 of the Shikoku Pilgrimage, Anrakuji offers more than just accommodation—it is a healing sanctuary steeped in 400 years of history. This “onsen temple,” founded by Kōbō Daishi himself, draws its healing waters from a natural hot spring. With 57 rooms including Japanese-style, single, and twin rooms, the lodging is clean, well-equipped (TV, Wi-Fi, laundry facilities), and ideal for pilgrims seeking both rest and spiritual reflection.
Guests can enjoy soaking in the flowing hot spring baths, known for their restorative qualities after a day’s walk. In the evening, visitors are invited to join a Buddhist service, sutra copying, and view Buddha statues and halls normally closed to the public—a rare spiritual experience. With seasonal local dishes such as Tokushima’s soba grain soup, the meals are both nourishing and memorable.

You can soothe your fatigue in the hot spring “Kobo no Yu”, which is only available to hotel guests. You can also see Buddhist statues and collections in places where you can not usually enter, as well as worship at the main hall.

I stayed in a single with ensuite bathroom. Although it is a temple lodging, it feels like a business hotel.
The rooms are clean and the food is delicious.
There is also a large hot spring bath, and guests can specially experience the service at the Seireiden.
I would like to stay again next time.

I felt that many first-time pilgrims were staying.
I also stayed here for the first time. During meals, the senior pilgrims taught me various things, which was very helpful.
The bath is a hot spring, but it seems that only the smaller one can enter the bath if there are few guests.
The room and facilities were clean and like a hotel.
The temple work is done at night, but I think it’s pretty good.
