A Rolling Memory on Rails—Sleep in a Blue Train by the Sea
Nestled quietly in the second parking lot of the Unpenji Ropeway station, overlooking the Seto Inland Sea, Shikoku Henro no Eki: Ohanefu no Yado is a rare guesthouse that brings a retired blue train back to life as a nostalgic place to stay. The train, once part of Japan National Railways, retains its original lighting, beds, tail lights, and PA system—inviting you to experience a journey that feels like it never ended. Whether you choose a private “Duet” room for two or a classic B-sleeper berth, this stay offers a uniquely sentimental adult adventure. Reservations are accepted by phone only, and updates are shared via their official X (formerly Twitter).

I stayed here in early December during my walking pilgrimage. Since the owner keeps a dog inside the vehicle, the interior has a noticeable dog odor. Rooms other than the one I used had accumulated trash and did not feel very clean. The shower could not be used because the water heater was broken.
The toilet, shower, and washbasin are all located outside the vehicle in a vinyl tent, so you need to go outside whenever you use them.
Although it is a lodging in a Blue Train, the strong smell of cats was overwhelming.
The place also did not appear to be cleaned properly and was very dirty.
