A Quiet Pilgrim’s Haven on Stone, Carrying Wishes Through the Night

Nestled along the pilgrimage route between Temple 43, Meisekiji, and Temple 44, Daihōji, Dōyama Daishi Tsuyado is a traditional lodging hall known as a zenkonyado—an inn offering free shelter to pilgrims. Marked by its classic tiled roof and wooden doors, it quietly preserves an atmosphere of reverence and rest. Inside, you’ll find a modest tatami-matted room, just enough to stretch out after a long day’s walk. Guests borrow the key from Koban Shokudō across the street and return it upon departure, a small yet touching gesture reflecting the warmth of the local community. Though there is no fee, a donation box is placed for those who wish to leave an offering. Facilities are intentionally simple—there’s no Wi-Fi, washing machine, or modern conveniences. Under the soft glow of the tsuyado’s lamps, pilgrims can quietly bring their day to a close, resting body and mind before stepping forward again at dawn.
