A Pilgrim’s Haven Near Sakaide Station with Heartwarming Home Cooking
Nestled in Sakaide City, Ryokan Miki offers walking pilgrims on the Shikoku Pilgrimage a comforting retreat near the 78th and 79th temples, Goshoji and Tennōji. The nine guest rooms are filled with a warm, homely atmosphere, while generous portions of lovingly prepared home-cooked meals welcome weary travelers. Essential amenities such as free parking (5 spaces), washing machines, dryers, and well-equipped guest rooms ensure a restful stay. Located just a 10-minute walk from JR Sakaide Station, its accessibility adds to its appeal, while the flexible 9:00 a.m. checkout time perfectly suits walking pilgrims’ schedules. One unique touch is the hostess’s heartfelt gesture of offering tsubuan-pan (sweet red bean bread) as part of her warm hospitality, making guests feel as though they’ve “come home” again.

Guests frequently praise the “kind and welcoming hostess” and describe the ryokan as having a “cozy, family-like atmosphere.” While the building and facilities retain a traditional charm, many reviews note they are “kept clean and comfortable,” creating a relaxing environment. The home-cooked meals are a particular highlight, described as “delicious and plentiful,” with several visitors stating they look forward to returning just for the food. The location earns further praise for being “conveniently close to the station,” and overall, Ryokan Miki is celebrated for its warmth, comfort, and the attentive hospitality that leaves a lasting impression.
I have stayed here four times. The building and facilities are old, but the inn has a nostalgic atmosphere and is very relaxing. The kind landlady and the quiet owner make a perfect combination! The food is delicious for the price, so I have become a repeat customer. Pilgrims are treated to Yamazaki bean paste bread when they check out. This is one of the inns I hope will continue forever.
★★★★★ (5 out of 5 stars)
I believe the reason this place is so beloved by walking pilgrims is because of the kindness of the landlady.
The price is very reasonable, maintaining the traditional pilgrim-inn rate,
and the generous and delicious meals make the age of the building completely irrelevant. She doesn’t necessarily do anything special—yet you can genuinely feel her thoughtfulness.
★★★★★ (5 out of 5 stars)
And that thoughtfulness never feels like a burden, nor does she ever make you feel uncomfortable about it.
It made me realize—this is what true kindness means.
I actually learned something important here,
and felt that this experience taught me more about myself than visiting a temple could.
This was my fifth stay. As soon as I opened the entrance door, the hostess welcomed me warmly. She seemed to remember my face and said, “Welcome back!”, which made me instinctively reply, “I’m home.”
★★★★★ (5 out of 5 stars)
Dinner always comes with four dishes including the main and side dishes—generous in portion and delicious. I also love that the bath is filled with plenty of hot water at a slightly higher temperature. Every time I stay here, I truly wonder how they can offer all of this at such an affordable price.
Even when I tell the hostess that she should raise the price a little to keep the business sustainable and continue for many years, she just smiles gently.
Please, whatever happens—don’t suddenly close the inn!
