A Nostalgic Stay Between the Castle Town and the Pilgrimage Trail
Minshuku Yakko is a cozy little inn located about an 8-minute walk from JR Uwajima Station, nestled in a quiet neighborhood that still carries the charm of an old castle town. Guests are welcomed into calm, warm Japanese-style rooms, where the friendly innkeeper’s hospitality gently eases the fatigue of travel. While the shared facilities are simple, many guests find peace in the quiet atmosphere. The home-cooked meals using local ingredients are often described as deeply comforting. Its convenient location near Uwajima Castle and Kisaiya Square also makes it a practical base for both sightseeing and walking pilgrimages.

Many reviews highlight the warm hospitality, especially noting: “Even though the landlady runs it by herself, the fresh fish dishes at breakfast and dinner are delicious.” Pilgrims especially appreciate the practical amenities: “Having access to laundry machines was really helpful,” and “The flexible service made me feel at ease.” The inn’s location is also praised: “Close to Uwajima Station, the castle, and Kisaiya Square—great for sightseeing and perfect for a pilgrimage stop or a business trip.” There are no notable negative reviews. The overall impression is that it’s “a comforting inn where you can feel the local charm” and “a place you’ll want to return to.”
There are no washing facilities.
★★ (2 out of 5 stars)
No Wi-Fi.
Air conditioner pay 100 yen for 120 minutes.
Please note that they will not let you in before 3pm.
Indeed, the facilities are old, but they are sufficient to soothe the body of a pilgrim. The kindness of the female innkeeper, along with her advice on how to continue the pilgrimage, were very helpful. The fact that I was able to complete the pilgrimage safely owes a lot to the presence of the innkeeper.

“The inn is managed by the landlady on her own. I stayed there during my walking pilgrimage in the winter of 2022, with breakfast and dinner included. The meals were incredibly delicious, especially the fresh fish dishes. There is no washer and dryer in the inn, so I was directed to a laundromat about a 15-minute walk away. However, it was too cold that day, so I decided not to do laundry. The air conditioner costs 100 yen for 2 hours, so you might need quite a few 100 yen coins if you stay in the summer, haha. I recommend this place if you don’t need to do laundry and if you’re staying in a season when you don’t need the air conditioning.”
