A quiet haven at the end of the path—where greenery, prayer, and stillness meet
Nestled beside the sacred Saigokuji Temple, a site tied to Kobo Daishi, the Saigokuji Pilgrimage Center offers a peaceful and meaningful lodging experience. Surrounded by lush greenery and the soothing sounds of flowing water, this temple lodging gently encourages travelers to rest after a long pilgrimage on foot. The center houses 12 Japanese-style and 13 Western-style rooms, all equipped with private toilets for comfort. A unique feature of this shukubo is the “Wishing Bath,” where guests can pour hot water over a statue of Kobo Daishi in the center of the tub, imbuing their cleansing ritual with reflection and prayer. In the morning, the sound of Buddhist hymns (goeika) resonates during a devotional service—an experience many describe as the perfect spiritual closure to their journey.
Facilities include a large public bath, Wi-Fi, washing machines, dryers, and on-site parking—offering not only serenity, but practical convenience for pilgrims. This is a special place where silence, sacredness, and comfort intertwine, helping travelers gather strength for whatever comes next.

Guests frequently mention “clean and spacious rooms and baths,” as well as “delicious meals,” saying it’s “surprisingly comfortable for a pilgrimage center.” The reinforced concrete structure resembles a group lodge but contains wide tatami rooms and ample bathing areas. Meals like katsuo tataki and local platter-style dishes are especially well-received. The morning prayers, held in a scenic location, are described as “a moving and peaceful experience.” Travelers particularly appreciate the calm, cleanliness, and thoughtful service.
The hotel is located behind the Hotsumisaki-ji Temple. Pilgrimage goods were also sold in the lobby. The room was spacious and had a bathroom as well. However, it was difficult to connect to the mobile phone signal. (It may depend on the room, and it may be resolved now, so this is just for reference)
★★★ (3 out of 5 stars)
・Suitable for visiting Hotsumisaki-ji Temple and sightseeing around Cape Muroto
★★★★ (4 out of 5 stars)
・Washing machine and dryer available.
・Wifi available (however, signal conditions are uneven in some parts of the hotel, so you could say that there is virtually no wifi).
