A mountaintop temple inn embraced by history and hot spring warmth
Perched atop a hill, Sen-yu-ji’s temple lodging offers serene silence and gentle steam from its natural hot springs. All rooms are traditional Japanese-style, and meals feature shojin ryori (Buddhist vegetarian cuisine) and fresh local vegetables, easing both body and soul after a long journey. From the elevated grounds, guests can gaze over Imabari City and the Seto Inland Sea. It’s a perfect resting point on your pilgrimage—where the very atmosphere invites deep rest and reflection.

It was a perfect shojin ryori that does not use any meat and is all vegetable dishes. There was also a rare dish called tangerine peel tempura. Rice was brown rice.

It’s a nice lodging next to a temple.
It’s located in a high place, so the view is very good.
I’ve stayed here twice, and I’m always impressed by the stories told by the chief priest, which remain in my heart.

Stating only the facts without personal impressions:
Hot water is not available in the bath and washroom.
Tea is provided via a hot water pot placed in the hallway; guests are expected to pour it into their own cups and bring it to their rooms.
Meals are served as catered boxed meals.
If you wish to leave early, you are required to participate in the morning service at 6:00 a.m.; otherwise, you may be told that this is not a hotel.
